Testing testing

Whiona sets off through the Manawatu Gorge to test her new Aarn Pack.
It's mid November and we are out testing a couple of new bits of gear.

The first is this, the Weebly phone app. Weebly is the blog platform you're reading now. It's easy to use and well designed. The phone app should let us post while on-the-go. I will let you know what I think of it when we get back to civilization.

The second is Whiona's knew Aarn pack. She is taking it for a spin through the Manawatu Gorge...

A DAY LATER...

Well it's the next day and the news is good and bad.

THE AARN PACK

Whiona's new Aarn Peak Aspiration is brilliant. She had it loaded with a typical load minus food and flew through the Gorge. It's a tighter package than
Whin's Aarn Featherlite Freeform, and more upright. She likes it lots.

The only drawback is that we are now both carrying matching packs. To our minds this is a bit nerdy, but that's a small price to pay for comfort.

WEEBLY PHONE APP

Not so much success with the phone app. I'd put it on my Andoid phone to see how updating this blog would go in the wild. It was an almost-total failure.

The photos wouldn't upload and I got interrupted once as a mountain bike swept past...I'd put the pone down and when I picked it up again, all the text had gone. This isn't the best when inputting on a small screen. I had to start again...for the third time. The phone had crashed every time I tried to upload a photo.

It was then that I had to give up. My battery had drained from 3/4s full to almost empty in the space of 5 minutes. The phone is an "old" Samsung Galaxy S2 running an old version of Android. I guess that I'll have to crack it to install the latest Android and buy a new battery if I want to use Weebly on Te Araroa. This has been a good test, but a bad result.

THE STOAT

You may choose to turn away now.

After my Weebly failure I needed cheering up. Usually the sight of beautiful dead things bums me out...but this freshly killed juvenile stoat lying in the middle of the road was something to celebrate. It was still warm. Sad but good.

    ABOUT US

Whiona and Whin are walking the South Island leg of the Te Araroa Trail in one hit - unless something goes wrong. We're doing it cos we can, but also to raise awareness of the Ruahine Whio Protection project.
