WHAT WE'LL BE EATING:
With the help of a dehydrator and Te Araroa walker Paul Garland's great recipe book, Fast and Light, Whiona has pre-prepared a fair bit of grub.
We've tested out Paul's recipes over the past few months and have found them to be easy to make, easy to cook on-the-go and REALLY nice. His ingredient list is tasty and clever.
Whin always makes too much dahl and rice for tea, so there are plenty of dried curries in bags. Dahl and basmati rice rehydrate really efficiently.
We've also stocked up on a bit of energy-rich food like nuts and chocolate. This'ill be sent forward in bump-boxes.
We've picked up a fair bit of Back Country Cuisine whenever we find it on sale and bought some on special through the Rangitikei Tramping Club.
For variety (we're kind of bored with BCC stuff) we've also been trying out a few other brands of freeze-dry food.
Weirdest is from American prepper food business The Wise Company. The food is interesting, and although it seems to be unsubstantial, it swells up to a fairly decent-sized meal.
Not bad food for paranoid Americans.
